Girls’ Football

2

The Girls’ football teams have been running for 5 years now and have gone from strength to strength. There are now two teams; a junior team with players from years 8 and 9 and a senior team from year 10 to

year 12.

Text Box: The “Cruyff turn” in action.

5        The girls have all proved to be committed and very talented; one girl has been scouted for Northern Ireland. Their skills and teamwork have improved as the season has gone on and their performances have been excellent.

7Text Box: The session on slide-tackling had clearly been useful!        This year the senior team were runners up in the Belfast Schools’ five-a-side competition, where the juniors narrowly lost their semi-final.

The junior team also finished third in the Belfast Schools’ seven-a-side tournament, with a four-nil win over Girls’ Model being the real highlight.

Text Box: Who said girls are soft? Mr. Mawhinney did not teach them to tackle like that!        With interest increasing in girls’ football, the future looks bright at for the DHS soccer starlets!
