Dundonald High School was delighted to invite the SEELB Chief Executive, Mr Stanton Sloan to unveil their new Home Economics and Art Suite.  The newly refurbished complex boasts state of the art facilities in both departments. During his unveiling speech Mr Sloan said that Dundonald High School was going from strength to strength.

The project is part of extensive renovation work that will be happening over the next 2 years to update        facilities in the school to the highest standard. Mr Sloan clearly stated that the SEELB fully supported the work that is going on in the school by both staff and pupils.

The local community were invited and represented by Primary School Principals, SEELB officers and Ballybeen Women’s Centre.  It was also a pleasure to ask the members of the building, design and construction team to return to the school to witness the grand opening. This team will continue with the extensive refurbishment programme which is due to be completed in 2011.

Pupils and staff provided Art, Music, ICT and Home Economics demonstrations during the official tour and Miss Johnston presented Mr Sloan with some of his favourite Rice Krispie buns.

Mrs Woods, Principal of Dundonald High School was delighted with the success of the event saying,

“This is a very exciting time for our school and the local community. Shortly work will commence on the next phase of our major £1.5 million building project which will ensure that the pupils and staff are working in a  modern, state of the art  learning environment.”

SCHOOL WINS £1,000

Last month we told you about our school making it to the last three schools in the Ards Shopping Centre Win-A-Mini-bus competition.

The bad news is that we weren’t lucky enough to win the bus. The good news is that we won £1,000.

The school was very well supported at the event by staff, pupils and parents. Each school chose a representative to answer a question. Mrs Robinson took to the Cool-FM stand where DJ Sonia Mac asked the deciding question.

The outcome was entirely down to luck as each school had to pick a blackboard A, B or C which when unveiled revealed the respective prizes.

Congratulations to Regent House School, who won the main prize, a brand new mini-bus.

                            ALTON  TOWERS TRIP 2008

The annual Alton Towers trip took place from 16-19 October 2008.  As usual we travelled with Ulsterbus Tours which makes the journey through Scotland and England most enjoyable as we can watch DVDs to keep us entertained once the sing-a-longs on the bus have died down!

We stayed at the Swallow Bowers Hotel which provided us with super accommodation.

The itinerary included trips to The Trafford Centre, Alton Towers and Bolton  Wanderers v Blackburn Rovers at the Reebok stadium.

The highlight of the trip had to be the Hallowe’en party when we played pass the parcel and musical chairs, sounds silly but it was hilarious.

Mr Perry wishes to thank all staff and pupils involved for making this the best trip yet!

XL SPONSORED WALK

Mr Perry’s XL group went on their fund-raising sponsored walk from Groomsport to Donaghadee.

The group is raising funds to subsidise the cost of their residential trip.

Special thanks to Mr and Mrs Waterworth of Pier 36 for our super lunch and to Mrs Gail Eastwood for providing refreshments en-route.

The XL group get ready to take off on their quest to Donaghadee from Groomsport car park.

       DUNDONALD HIGH’S LUCKY 13

Thirteen talented poets from our school have been chosen to have their work published in a prestigious poetry anthology. The pupils were chosen by the Young Writers organisation from thousands of entries across the UK and overseas, after entering poems on the subject of war.

Mrs Woods is delighted at the achievement. “It clearly shows the wealth of talent that we have here at Dundonald. I am very proud of the young people here and I am thrilled that their talents are being recognised.”

A World of Difference is scheduled for publication on the 30th November 2008.

Well done to all of our pupils for taking part.
