GCSE Hospitality
Through studying our GCSE in Hospitality, students develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the hospitality industry. In particular, they learn about:
- How hospitality organizations operate;
- How the hospitality industry meets people's needs;
- The products and services offered by the hospitality industry;
- Employment possibilities in hospitality
- The importance of quality and customer service in the hospitality industry;
- Basic food hygiene practices;
- The skills required to provide food and drink for customers.
Students develop the core skills required for working in the hospitality industry and transferable skills that are important in working life.
This GCSE provides opportunities for students to progress into further education, training and/or employment in the hospitality industry. Many students with a qualification in GCSE Hospitality go on to have successful careers as chefs, waiters, front office managers, events managers and/or account managers.
GCSE Hospitality is focused on three areas:
1. Hospitality Industry – This is an introductory unit to the type of hospitality facilities and range of jobs available. This unit is externally assessed through a written examination (20% of overall grade).
2. Reception and Accommodation – This unit looks at all areas of tourist accommodation and the associated jobs. This unit is externally assessed through a pre-seen case study examination (20% of overall grade).
3. Food and Drink – This targets all aspects of management and the preparation and serving of food and drink in a range of hospitality outlets. This unit is internally assessed through three practical activities (60% of overall grade). The Food and Drink unit includes as many practical experiences and visits to hospitality facilities as possible.
