Why study Business Studies?
Learning about business is both interesting and useful. It is challenging and requires imagination, creativity and a questioning mind. Knowledge of business practices is an important part of the survival kit of any citizen. Young people are a part of the business world and at some point each and every one is affected by it - as consumers, producers or employees. Business Studies will use the experience of pupils and direct their interests into the 'real world'.

What does a GCSE course involve?
The content of the GCSE course is presented in the following sections:
- Aims, types and internal organisation of business
- Human Resources: recruitment, selection, training and payment of workers
- Marketing - research, promotion, consumer demands, pricing strategies
- Finance - accounts, cash flow, break even
- Production: types of production, methods of production
Assessment
There are 3 main elements;
- Coursework 20%
- Paper 1 - Case study 30%
- Paper 2 - Four questions 50%
The scheme of assessment consists of two tiers;
- Foundation Tier Grades C - G inclusive
- Higher Tier Grades A* - D (E)
Each candidate is required to submit one assignment that must be related to a business situation. The candidate is required to undertake individual research and make use of ICT to assist in the analysis and interpretation of information.
What next?
This option will develop in pupils the business knowledge and skills required needed for a wide range of business related courses. Pupils will also have developed their managing information skills, problem solving skills and will have practised working with others. All essential skills needed for the world of work.
