LET Programme
The aim of Young Enterprise's Key Programme is to sow the seeds for changing the participants' future. Young People are taken out of their own environment and immersed in a dynamic, motivational and potentially life-changing experience in a residential setting at intervals over the school year. Course content is delivered by trained facilitators, working alongside business volunteers from the public and private sector, who offer a challenging menu of personal development, entrepreneurship training, enterprise development and outdoor activities.
Programme Aims
This programme is specifically aimed at making a positive impact on young people at a critical stage of their development, the objectives, through cross-community interaction, are to raise aspirations through the teaching of vital life skills. By creating a positive and enthusiastic attitude in participants and getting them to realise the value of remaining in education to benefit their own futures, the vision of the project is to make a difference to them and the communities in which they live.
The programme also includes personal development through outdoor adventure with a focus on communication skills, leadership qualities and developing a healthy and enjoyable attitude to life. Twelve Year 11 Pupils are involved in this programme every year.

YEAR 10 YOUNG ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME - LEARN TO EARN
This is a Young Enterprise Programme that some Year 10 pupils are involved with every year. Students come face to face with business volunteers who help them to understand the link between their education and their future success and happiness in work and life.
- Six activity-based sessions.
- Run as a 1-day seminar.
- Introduces concepts of success, achievement and independence in a work context.
- Explores career choices and links between different careers and the level of educational attainment required.
- Contributes to the development of financial capability.
BUSINESS STUDIES DEPARTMENT – EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITES
Every year GCSE Business Studies pupils participate in this Young Enterprise Course. Pupils who successfully complete the course are awarded with a certificate to show their achievement.
Students gain a practical, activity-based insight into economic and business life through sharing in the real life experiences of a volunteer who works in their locality.
- Six lessons presented over six weeks or as a one-day seminar.
- Explores a range of key business concepts.
- Examines the role and responsibilities of the consumer.
- Contributes to the development of business and economic understanding.
YEAR 8 YOUNG ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME - MOVING ON
This programme runs in June of Year 8. The programme provides pupils with the opportunity to reflect on Year 8, and prepare themselves for Year 9 by exploring goal setting, time management, prioritising and team work. This year successful pupils won memory sticks for their computers and calculators.
YEAR 12 YOUNG ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME - SUCCESS SKILLS
Dundonald High School has successfully participated in this programme for the past 2 years. A group of Year 12 girls are given the opportunity to develop interpersonal and problem-solving skills necessary for success in the workplace. At the end of the programme there is a conference for the pupils to attend where they participate in business competitions and listen to motivational speakers. The girls from Dundonald High School have been very successful each year winning prizes such as digital cameras, dvd players and perfume.
GCSE YOUNG ENTERPRICSE PROGRAMME – Presenting yourself
GCSE pupils are given the opportunity to participate in this course. It helps develop the key skills they need for oral work at GCSE level. The course focuses on the development of speaking and presentation skills to positively impact career and social development. This course helps develop skills needed for GCSE English and Learning for Life and Work.
