History
The main aim of the History Department is to stimulate interest and enthusiasm for a study of the past enabling pupils to reconstruct life-styles and events of previous generations, to have the opportunity to re-think past thoughts, emotions, and actions which shaped particular periods under study. To this end a wide range of social, political and economic History covering local, national and world perspectives has been devised for Key Stage 3. Pupils then have the option of following a GCSE Course in Years 11 and 12.
We have tried to balance the traditional acquisition of Historical Knowledge with investigative tasks involving ‘evidence based’ research. The end product is envisaged to produce a pupil who has a range of Historical Skills, capable of a systematic and logical approach to his/her studies. The main emphasis has to be enjoyment - this is the secret to the successful teaching of History.
