GCSE Course
Most pupils at Dundonald High School study Mathematics at GCSE level in Years 11 and 12. The course provides sound basis for further study of mathematics and related study at a more advanced level.
There are two tiers of entry. Foundation and Higher, with each tier divided into two components: a module and terminal paper. This enables candidates from a wide ability range to demonstrate achievement. At different times throughout the course, pupils will have the opportunity to be entered for a series of modules which are related to their potential. This also enables candidates to monitor their progress and offers opportunities for improvements of grades.
The course is assessed through the combination of written examination papers which includes non- calculator and with calculator sections.
The written papers will assess Using and Applying Mathematics, Number, Algebra, Space, Shape and Measures, and Handling Data. Using and Applying Mathematics will be assessed as an integral part of the questions set on the other assessment objectives.
Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics
CCEA Entry Level Mathematics for Life is designed to allow accessibility to the NI Key Stage 4 Programme of study in Mathematics and enables students to gain a recognised certification at Entry Level.
The specification builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed at Key Stage 3.
NB The target group for a course based on this specification are candidates who are capable of demonstrating achievement at Entry Levels 1,2 and 3, but who would find a full Mathematics GCSE too demanding.
